Nice to meet you!
I’m Audrey Scherrer, the owner and chocolatier behind Bittersweet Kitchen.
My love affair with food started long ago in my mom’s and grandma’s kitchens. I’ve always believed a good cook is like a magical sorceress who dispenses happiness. Naturally, I wanted to be a magical sorceress too! And so, my journey began.
I didn’t, however, always know this would be my path in life. I received a Bachelor of Science in Food Science and Human Nutrition with a concentration in hospitality management from the University of Illinois. While at my full-time corporate job, I wanted to go the extra step and make my clients a little something to make them feel even more special. I loved baking so much, that I took it on as my full-time hobby. Diving deeper into baking, I decided to take classes in chocolate and candy making at the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, New York. My clients benefited the most as I would often bring them the treats that I had whipped up that week.
My clients loved these treats so much that they started calling and asking me to make chocolate truffles for parties, friends, as corporate gifts and more. This is when I knew I was onto something.
So, after several years of long days and longer nights, growing my side business and working my full-time job, I took a leap of faith. I incorporated Bittersweet Artisan Truffles in 2011. As all businesses do, Bittersweet began to evolve. I developed new recipes, created new products, re-branded to Bittersweet Kitchen in 2016 and added new retail partners. We have always been, and will remain, a woman-owned business, supporting our sisters in their passions and businesses.
